A Month of Gratitude 2024: Day 16

Hello there.  How was the start to your week?  Mine was very peaceful.  My long weekend has come to an end, and I didn’t get much done.  I did rest, though, and I think that was the most important thing to get done.

One Thing I am Grateful For

I didn’t get to see my sister today as planned, so I gave her a call instead, and we chatted for over an hour.  It was good to hear her voice. I am glad we took the time to catch up.

Reviewing and Renewing

I have spent this weekend reviewing the year that was and thinking through my 2025 goals.  As I have mentioned,  my word for 2025 will be “Wellness”, so I have been unpacking what that means for me and what success will look like.

My word for 2024 is “Less”.  I am quite excited that I have managed to get a lot of physical decluttering done.  I will spend the last two weeks of the year improving my digital decluttering.  I store so much stuff that I will probably never use, and I suspect it is because I am often unclear about what I want to do or write about, so I store loads of information “just in case”.

If you have not tried choosing a word for the year, I highly recommend it.  I find that it helps me stay intentional about how I live my life throughout the year, as the word I choose always hangs around in the back of my mind and gives me a gentle prod when I deviate from my intention.  Thus far, I have developed better digital systems for storing information at work because my 2022 intention was about productivity.  I am still working on one for home, and I am excited because I have finally found one that I like and can make work.  It always helps me feel like I can end the year feeling like I have made significant progress in at least one area of my life.

That’s it from me today.  Thanks for popping by.  Do you have a word for the year?  How have you progressed towards achieving something towards it?

Bye for now.

A Month of Gratitude 2024: Day 15

Hello There!  Wow, we are halfway through December, and there are only 10 days to Christmas.   I have to keep reminding myself to be more mindful of every day so that I make every day count in some way.

One Thing I am Grateful For

I am halfway through season one of “Bad Sisters” on Apple TV.  Watching the sisters’ relationship reminds me of my relationship with my baby sister and cousin, who I consider a sister.  I can talk to them about anything, and they will always have my back.  I used to worry that my son would never really have that as an only child, but I see the relationship he has with his brothers and cousins, and I know that they will always watch out for him.  I am so grateful that we both have family we can count on.

A Moment of Joy

I had forgotten that it was Sunday, so when my dad called at his usual time, it was a wonderful surprise.  He calls every Sunday.  It’s a tradition he started when my son was about two years old, and he continues to this day.  He does it for all his grandchildren.  My son and I have always looked forward to those calls.

That’s it for today.  I hope you have had an awesome Sunday.

Bye for now.

A Month of Gratitude: Day 14

Hello there!  It was the first day of a three-day weekend today—definitely something to feel gratitude for.  I love three-day weekends.  I find that they are just the perfect number of days to get everything you need done and rest.  Day one can be for running errands.  Day two can be for socialising, and day three can be for just chilling at home, gathering yourself, and mentally preparing for a new week.

Two Things to Be Grateful For

  1. Freedom!  Haha!  My son spent some time away so I had some alone time today.  The thing about being a parent is that you never know how best to use it because you want to rest, but there are things that you want to do as well, and there is only so much time!  Phew!  It’s a thrill and can be exhausting!
  2. I bought an exercise bike today.  It will probably only arrive next week but it is a step in the right direction.  I used to own but I used to get so bored riding it.  Watching TV is not really my thing so it didn’t help.  I have learnt to keep my brain entertained by listening to podcasts audion books while i get some steps in at night so I am hoping it will work with cycling as well.  I also plan to hop on it for 5-10 min at a time on the days when I work from home to give my eyes a break from the screen and to get my circulation going rather than being stuck behind a desk all day.   This also fits in with my word for 2025, which is “Wellness”.   As I have mentioned before, this was not my best health year so I am grateful that I still can remedy that.

One Moment of Joy

Nothing beats a weekend nap on the couch in front of the TV in my opinion.  It just hits differently.  So that was my moment of joy for today, that afternoon that I got to enjoy.

Thanks for popping by.  What are you grateful for today?  Let me know in the comments.
