Gratitude for Nature and Time Outdoors- Day 16 2025

Reflections

Four days away from work and I finally feel refreshed. What a blessing! The funny thing is that now my brain feels like it has all its tabs open. I have not been able to focus on anything. I feel like I am in overdrive. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This year, my garden surprised me twice. The Bearded Iris that my aunt gifted me about 5 -6 years ago finally flowered. I was delighted. Today, I looked out the window and discovered that the onion I planted about a month or two ago rewarded me with four onions. I had to throw one away because it looked like a monkey or another animal had bitten into it. My lilies flowered for the first time in two or three years. I had been so disappointed the last couple of summers when they did not flower. I love lilies.

I got to experience sunrises and sunsets in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Ballito this year. I am always in awe of Mother Nature’s work. She never paints the same picture twice and each one is breathtakingly beautiful.

Gratitude for Quiet Moments – Day 6 2025

Reflection

As an introvert, one of the most precious things to me is a quiet moment to gather my energy. These solitary weekends serve this purpose for me. I get to read and watch TV uninterrupted (unless the cats decide they need their human butler to serve them in some way or another😂). It’s also my time to think, plan, and write, even if no one will see my writing.

As a single mum, this is an extra special treat. I have often heard friends and colleagues mention how their partner has taken the kids to sports practice or out for the afternoon. As a single parent, I have to do it all. When my son was younger, I would get a break during holidays but during the school term, it was up to me to get him where he needed or wanted to be. I wouldn’t change the challenges of being a single mum for all the gold in the world. They make me appreciate these quiet moments even more because they give me the energy to keep showing up as the best mum I can be.

A Question for You

What is one thing in your life today that you feel quietly grateful for?
