A Month of Gratitude 2024: Day 9

Hello There. Another Monday done and dusted. I can sleep well tonight knowing that I have completed everything I had set out to do. The outcomes I leave in God’s hands although I will be praying that it all works out ok.

Two Things I am Grateful For

  1. Today, I am very grateful for my colleagues and team, who have helped me get things done to the best of my ability. I have come to realise that executing is actually not my nature. I have always thought that I am just a procrastinator, but it turns out that I am more of a thinker than a doer, so I surround myself with doers. How do I know? I did Clifton’s StrengthFinder 2.0 a few years ago, and execution is not in my top ten strengths. I do get things done eventually, but it is almost always at the last minute. Apparently, that is a personality trait as well. So, I am very grateful for my colleagues and team who are stronger executioners and help em get things done.
  2. I am also grateful for my home. It’s pretty small, but it works. It’s a two-storey place and my favourite place to be during the day is downstairs. It is the coolest area of the house because it doesn’t get the morning sun, and if I keep the fan on and the doors and windows closed, I also seem to keep the humidity out. What a pleasure! Today, I opened the door to let in a cat. It was like a sauna out there. I closed that door so fast. I am really grateful that I can work from home comfortably on hot days with just a fan.

One Source of Joy

I have an oats addiction. Weird, right? When I work from home, one of my greatest pleasures is making myself a bowl of oats. I have some yoghurt beforehand to help with the glucose spike, and then I enjoy my oats with chia seeds and blueberries. Today was a work-from-home day, so I got to enjoy my bowl of oats for breakfast. I was in heaven.

That’s it from me for today. How was your Monday? Is there anything you are feeling grateful for today?

Bye For Now.

What books do you want to read?

A topic about books! Whoo Hoo! I could write about books for days…lol I will keep it short though.

My top 5 books that I would like to read this year are as follows:

  • The Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes. I read I Am Pilgrim when it launched, loved it, and had given up hope that this book would ever be published. It’s been almost nine years. I hope it’s worth the wait.
  • Educated by Tara Westover – this book was recommended by a fellow blogger earlier this month. I am looking forward to getting a copy.
  • Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that can’t stop talking by Susan Cain. I have owned this book since it launched, and I think it is finally time for me to read it. (Do you also believe that every book has its time?)
  • Women Who Run With Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. I am just curious about this book.
  • Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson. I have yet to finish his biography of Einstein, and I would also like to get through this book. Da Vinci was a fascinating person.

What are you looking forward to reading this year? I have set myself a goal of 45 books this year, so I am open to recommendations.

Thanks for popping by. Be Blessed.

In what ways do you communicate online?

Hi There! Interesting question Bloganuary. I must admit that I communicate in very limited ways online.

As Grounded African

I love quotes (in case you haven’t noticed). Ever since my mum passed away just over 5 years ago, I have been on this journey both spiritually and emotionally and quotes have helped me along the way. I try to create visually appealing backgrounds for the quotes that resonate with me and share them via this blog, IG and FB.

I communicate my thoughts and lessons via this blog and sometimes on Medium. On Medium as I do post under my name though. I share the links via FB and IG, but I find the audience on each platform is more drawn to the quotes and don’t appear to be keen to read blog posts.

On a Personal level

On a personal level I stick to Facebook and IG. I use both to update friends and family on the milestones in my life as well as on the things that amuse me, make me sad or that I find interesting.

I do have Twitter/X accounts but I use the platform more to keep up-to-date with the goings on in the world in real time. Otherwise, I find it a scary place to interact with people.

I chat on WhatsApp mainly. I find it highly frustrating (and shady) that Snapchat deletes your chat after 24hrs, so when I forget to note something, that’s it; it’s gone, so I have deleted my Snapchat account. I also chat with my fellow players on Scrabble.

I also share short book reviews on Goodreads. You can view these by clicking on the Goodreads widget on my page. If you are on there, please add me as a friend so that I can discover new books through you, and perhaps you will do the same through me.

I am keen to expand my online presence but have yet to find the time to plan it out and learn how to make the best use of the different apps like TikTok and whatever else is good to know. I still have not figured out how to use Pinterest best.🤪 Does anyone have a blog page that could help me develop these skills? Do you have any hints and tips to share? Please leave a link or a suggestion in the comments.

That’s it for today. Thanks for popping by. 💐. Be Blessed!
